Initially conceived as a webinar about the Ukraine War, its geopolitical impacts, and possibilities for peace, the similarly murderous and geopolitical earthquake of this October Gaza War has led us to change our title and format. Anatol Lieven, of the Quincy Institute, and Phyllis Bennis, of the Institute for Policy Studies, will update us on these wars’ development, diplomacy, increasingly interrelated geopolitical implications, and possible paths to greater peace and justice.

Please plan to join us. Spread the word as you can. And do all that you can for peace and justice,

Anatol Lieven directs the Eurasia Program at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. He was formerly a professor at Georgetown University in Qatar and in the War Studies Department of King’s College London. From 1985 to 1998, Lieven worked as a journalist in South Asia, the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe and covered the wars in Afghanistan, Chechnya, and the southern Caucasus. His books include Ukraine and Russia: A Fraternal Rivalry (US Institute of Peace. Press)

Phyllis Bennis directs the New Internationalism Project at the Institute for Policy Studies, focusing on the Middle East, U.S. militarism, and UN issues. She is also a fellow of the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam. In 2001 she helped found the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights and more recently spent six years on the board of Jewish Voice for Peace, where she now serves as its International Adviser. Phyllis has written and edited 11 books, including 7th updated edition of her popular Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict

Saturday, October 14, 2023 12:00 PM -  2:00 PM ET

Online event

Following a webinar on May 7th which brought together leading organizations and activists working on the two crucially important issues of climate change and nuclear war, this forum will allow for more in depth discussion on how we the climate and nuclear weapons movements can work together to save the planet from these existential threats before it is too late. Merging these into an inclusive mass movement in the transition to a greener economy is essential! An online forum with speakers highlighting how to take action on climate solutions and nuclear solutions, a panel on how we can help each other build a strong and inclusive movement, followed by breakout rooms to share ideas on action.
